Brian Whitehurst is Chief of Staff and Global Head of Regulatory Affairs at Liberty City Ventures. In this role, Brian leads a multidisciplinary team of 17, oversees internal information flow between General Partners and staff, and manages LP operations, including onboarding, diligence, co-investments, and ongoing communications. He works closely with the CFO on investment approvals and disbursements, liaises with outside counsel on all legal matters, partners with HR on firmwide policies, and sits on the investment team, helping evaluate new opportunities. Brian also leads special projects and new initiatives for the firm, supports portfolio companies in scaling their businesses, and serves on the Board of Lukka. Externally, he regularly represents Liberty City Ventures in public forums, speaking on regulatory policy, stablecoins, and tokenization.
Prior to joining Liberty City Ventures, Brian spent 12 years as an Assistant Attorney General in the Investor Protection Bureau of the New York Attorney General’s Office, where he led the office’s crypto and blockchain practice. He spearheaded landmark enforcement actions involving Tether, Bitfinex, and BlockFi, and co-authored the Virtual Markets Integrity Initiative, the world’s first comprehensive review of major crypto trading platforms. Earlier in his career, Brian served as International & Domestic Logistics Lead for the Office of U.S. President Bill Clinton, acting as a liaison among senior government officials, business leaders, and global nonprofit organizations.
